Le nouveau livre de Marina Neary

           A plusieurs reprises dans ce blog et pour les amateurs de littérature américaine, j’ai évoqué le travail de création de mon amie Marina Neary. Elle sort prochainement son prochain livre sur une Irlande gaélique... En voici la présentation.

Roscommon, Ireland – 1909.  Brendan Malone, a petty Gaelic landlord, suffers from a midlife flare-up of nationalism.  A string of crop failures and botched rebellions had left his country a pitiful wasteland.  Frustrated by the provincial routine, Brendan joins a circle of the secret Irish Republican Brotherhood, while his two sons climb the academic Olympus at University College Dublin, gradually becoming anglicized.  When they return home, Brendan demands that they revert to their Gaelic identity and join him on his underground crusade.  Dylan, primitive and compliant, clings to his overbearing father, while Hugh refuses to abandon his newly acquired Anglo-Saxon values and harbors his own ambitions that do not include liberating his native land.  Hugh's refusal to obey sends Brendan into a violent rage.  Overnight, the meager village becomes engulfed by a storm of disasters that result in a skirmish and a group execution.  How far will a fanatical father go to punish his disobedient son?

            Dans le cadre de cette parution, elle me demande de rédiger une présentation en insistant sur le fait que c’est à l’auteur du “Ceilidh” qu’elle s’adresse, au “spécialiste” du celtisme. Je propose demain de livrer ce que je lui ai proposé en guise de « blurb » (présentation) : A blurb is a short review, a couple of sentences, about the book.  Usually written by a critic or another published author.
